Jacksonville, FL (April 5, 2017) – The Jacksonville Equestrian Center in Jacksonville, Florida is the place to be this weekend, as the much-anticipated Jacksonville Spring Classic hunter/jumper series kicks off. Admission is free for spectators as hundreds of horses jump into the spotlight for the first weekend of the three-week horse show.
The three weeks of hunter and jumper competition produced by the Classic Company begins with the Jacksonville Spring Classic I, kicking off at 8:00 am on Friday, April 7, 2017. The show will be in full swing on Saturday and Sunday as well, beginning at 8:00 am each day. A highlight of the weekend will be the $10,000 Jumper Classic at 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 8. The exciting event is free to spectators, and parking is free, too!
The Jacksonville Equestrian Center will greet competitors and spectators with an enormous indoor stadium, outdoor rings, over 400 permanent stalls, 78 RV spaces with water and electric hook ups, and close proximity to hotels, restaurants, world-class golf, beaches, and downtown Jacksonville. Horse lovers can expect to see hundreds of talented horses flying over impressively high jumps through tricky courses.
Lisa Engel, Sponsorship and Public Relations Director of the Classic Company, says, “The numbers keep moving up, but for the opening week, which starts on Friday, we expect about 350 riders. For Week II and III the number is closer to 500 per week! Opening Week is all about the Junior and Amateur riders.”
The Jacksonville Spring Classic I will be a USEF A-rated Junior Amateur Show. The Jacksonville Spring Classic II will take place from Tuesday, April 11 through Saturday, April 15. This week will include a $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby sponsored by Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club, and a $35,000 American Standard Grand Prix at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 14. The Jacksonville Spring Classic III will be held from Wednesday, April 19 through Sunday, April 23. This show will also feature a $35,000 American Standard Grand Prix, on Saturday, April 22. The Jacksonville Spring Classic is rated USEF JR/AM, USEF Level 3, USEF Premier, USEF Level 4, and offers Opportunity Classes for those riders who are not USEF members and want to compete at a USEF rated competition. The series offers over $260,000 in prize money.
While the entire series will feature exciting competition, Engel suggests the second two weeks to anyone who needs to choose just one or two days to travel to the Jacksonville Equestrian Center to watch. “I would especially recommend the International Hunter Derby on Friday during Week II, and the Grand Prix is always exciting during Weeks II and III,” she says.
The Classic Company is excited to bring the show series back to the Jacksonville Equestrian Center for another year. “We have a strong number of riders in Northern Florida, and at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center we also are able to host the riders returning North after winter circuits,” explains Engel. “The location is convenient and the indoor arena is a unique for the area.” The Jacksonville Equestrian Center makes an ideal location for a show of this caliber, with an enormous indoor arena, multiple outdoor rings, outdoor derby field, and friendly, professional staff.
“We enjoy our shows and competitors and welcoming the public to come out and experience exciting show jumping. It’s a fun event and we never charge an entry fee, so bring the whole family and your friends!” Engel encourages.
